In 1949 Ashaway produces its first nylon racket strings and in 1950 Ashaway releases its first badminton strings. The Multi-Ply and the Profected, both braided nylon multifilament strings in gauge 19 and 20.
Gauge (read “gage”) is an American scale used to express the thickness of wires.
 Gauge 20 = 0.812mm / 19 = 0.912mm
Tennis strings are also released under the same names, but in Gauge 15 (= 1,449 mm)

Nylon badminton strings are then relatively new in the world of badminton , where everyone plays with strings made from gut (sheep and cow)
In 1935 the then young company DuPont develops the new material “nylon”. The first nylon strings come onto the market around 1939. These are predominantly monofilament strings made from one fiber. In 1949 Ashaway produces the world’s first multifilament strings. These are strings made up of multiple very thin fibers.

In the following decades Ashaway developed strong and resilient strings with an ever thinner diameter. The Flex 21 with a diameter of 0.75 mm and the Micro Legend XL of 0.73 mm (gauge 21) are some examples of this. They became widely known and appreciated.

In 2009 Ashaway introduced the new ZyMax® badminton strings, produced with Ashaway’s revolutionary ZyWeave TM core technology.
ZyMax 62  (0.62 mm diameter) was the thinnest badminton string ever produced at the time. The Zymax series provides a very complete range of strings.
Strong strings in a variety of diameters:
0.62, 0.64, 0.66, 0.68, 0.69 and 0.70 mm
Developed and designed to meet all the different preferences and wishes of badminton players.
